The iOS 16 Developer Beta was just released! Apple changed the sideloading process to make it slightly more difficult for newcomers to get started.
There’s now a developer mode! If you’re as excited as I was when I heard this news, sorry to let you down. It’s not what you’re thinking. Instead of opening up iOS to allow for more freedom and creativity, well… Apple has done the opposite. Apple has restricted sideloading for devices with “developer mode” disabled, which is everyone. Once you enable developer mode, you can start sideloading, just like before. Here’s the breakdown:
- Open the Settings app
- Navigate to “Privacy & Security”
- Scroll down and select “Developer Mode”
- Enable Developer Mode
- Reboot your phone
